Bearmont Group is proud to announce the successful completion of the Sense Hub, formerly known as Tal Y Fan, a project that has breathed new life into a once-dilapidated Grade 2 listed building.
For over 18 years, Tal Y Fan stood in disrepair, a relic of the old Denbigh Hospital site. Now, thanks to the tireless efforts of the Bearmont team, along with a dedicated group of construction experts, heating and plumbing engineers, electrical contractors, plasterers, joiners, and window manufacturers, this historic building has been transformed into a state-of-the-art respite centre for Sense.
Rob Lloyd, CEO of Bearmont Group said: "It's been a fantastic team effort to complete the building against all odds, and although we've faced our share of costly lessons, I am immensely proud that Bearmont has brought this incredible facility to fruition."
The Sense Hub, operated by Sense Cymru Wales, will serve as a lifeline for individuals with complex disabilities and sensory impairments. This purpose-built centre offers a wide range of specialised services and support, including sensory activities, communication assistance, and personalised care plans tailored to each individual's unique needs.
Bearmont Group has a proven track record in restoring listed buildings, and their expertise shines through in the meticulously preserved features of Grade 2 listed Sense Hub. Having recently completed restorations last month, Bearmont Group's commitment to preserving historical landmarks is evident.
"Sometimes, we take for granted the blessings in our lives. Witnessing the dedicated work of the Sense staff truly opens our eyes to the importance of quality of life," Lloyd emphasised.
With staff ratios as high as 4 to 1, the facility is equipped to care for the most severely disabled individuals, offering them a safe and nurturing environment. The Sense Hub will accommodate up to 16 service users, supported by a team of 40 dedicated part-time- and full-time staff members.
Lloyd added: "We could not have achieved this without the support of Denbighshire Council, whose help and encouragement have been invaluable. The entire team’s commitment to the project's success never wavered and we are proud to have been able to give back to our community. It’s certainly a legacy project that we can all be proud of and will be here for a long time."
James Davies MP said: “Rob and Bearmont Group have done a fantastic job in restoring Tal y Fan and transforming it into a ‘Sense’ hub. It is clear to see what an excellent facility this will be, providing respite for people with complex needs and their families. Thank you to all involved.”
Nicola Stubbins, Corporate Director: Social Services And Education at Denbighshire County Council said, “We are pleased to see new services opening up in Denbighshire, particularly where specialist needs can be met. We look forward to working with Sense Cymru Wales.”
