Vale of Clwyd MP Dr James Davies is keen to congratulate all those involved in organising the spectacular bank holiday events which took place in the area, attracting visitors from far and wide.
Both Rhyl and Prestatyn were buzzing over the weekend thanks to an array of well organised events which proved more popular than ever.
Rhyl Air Show returned after a two year break due to the pandemic and saw record numbers attend on both the Saturday and Sunday.
James, who attended the event with his family, said:
“The Rhyl Air Show was a massive success, and the main organisers, Denbighshire Leisure Ltd and Rhyl Town Council, deserve huge praise for putting on such a truly impressive event over the two days.
“It was wonderful to see the promenade packed and families enjoying the many displays in the sunshine. I have been attending Rhyl Air Show for years and must say this was the best to date.”
James added:
“It was unfortunate that the Red Arrows had to cut short their display on the Sunday due to a bird strike, but I was very pleased to hear that the pilot was able to return to Hawarden Airport unharmed.
“Since the incident I have been contacted by a resident concerned about possible debris from the plane as a result of the incident and therefore contacted the Royal Airforce Aerobatic Team who have stressed that should any debris wash-up onto the shore, the area should be cordoned off and the police contacted in the first instance.
“The pilots are well trained to deal with such incidents and I, like others watching, was extremely impressed with how they dealt with the bird strike.
“I know Rhyl Air Show takes a phenomenal amount of planning and in my view, it could not have been done better. Jamie Groves and his team at Denbighshire Leisure, Rhyl Town Council, and everyone else involved in organsing this event did Rhyl proud.”
Rhyl East Cllr Justine Evans said:
“I have been attending Rhyl Air Show since it was launched in 2009. Since that time it has gone from strength to strength and has really put Rhyl on the map, with people travelling from all over the country to watch the spectacular displays.
“I attended this year with my family and was astounded by the crowds - I don’t think it’s ever been so busy. Following a challenging few years due to the pandemic, it was just what the town needed. As locals we are extremely fortunate to have this impressive annual, free event on our doorstep. Congratulations and well done to all those who were involved in making it the great success it was.”
Over the weekend, James also attended Prestatyn’s Classic Car Show.
He said:
“Whilst people flocked to Rhyl to see the planes, in Prestatyn the crowds gathered to enjoy the classic cars, with organiser Tim Williams once again putting on an impressive show featuring more than 300 vehicles.
“Like Rhyl Air Show, this popular event was cancelled in 2020 and 2021 due to the pandemic, so it was great to see it back, bigger and better than ever. Once again Tim delighted visitors and already people are looking forward to next year’s show.”
James added:
“Prestatyn Rocks was also a success and, whilst I was unable to attend, I believe Dyserth’s Duck Race attracted many visitors too.
“It is great that locals and visitors had such a great choice of events to attend over the Bank Holiday Weekend and that the weather was kind. As MP for the Vale of Clwyd, I was extremely proud to see the area so vibrant, and I am grateful to all those who work so hard throughout the year to ensure that these events are a success. Roll on next August!”
