Speaking in Wednesday’s House of Commons proceedings, Vale of Clwyd MP Dr James Davies called on the Welsh Government “to get a grip” on controlling Covid outbreaks in North Wales.
North Wales confirmed the highest number of confirmed cases per capita of any area in England and Wales in the last week - bringing the total number in the region to 2,876.
During Wales Questions in Parliament, James asked the Secretary of State for Wales, Simon Hart MP, to join him in calling on the Welsh Government to “get a grip” on controlling the virus in the region.
He said:
“A few days ago, Wales finally joined the UK portal for Covid test applications - some five weeks following its launch. Perhaps because of such delays, North Wales remains an outlier in new case numbers. Will my Right Hon. Friend join me in calling on the Welsh Government to get a grip on controlling outbreaks, mostly relating to care homes and hospitals?”
Speaking afterwards, James said:
“I was very pleased to hear from the Secretary of State for Wales that he would be speaking to the First Minister later today about this very matter, amongst other things.

“As he said, the statistics show that North Wales is currently an uncomfortable outlier compared with the rest of the UK. These cases are almost entirely related to care homes and hospitals rather than other community settings.
“It is vital that the Welsh Government takes urgent action to get the outbreaks in our health and care settings under control.”
