Vale of Clwyd MP Dr James Davies is calling on veterans of the Second World War living in the constituency to register to be part of the nation’s commemorations to mark the 75th anniversaries of VE and VJ Day, on 8th May and 15th August respectively
A special programme of events marking VE 75 will take place over the Early May Bank Holiday 2020 in Central London and has been designed to be of particular interest to all from the Second World War generation who served at home and overseas across the European theatre.
The UK’s VJ Day national event will take place at the National Memorial Arboretum on Saturday 15 August. The event will form part of a three-day public programme of events from 14 - 16 August, which will include a national service of Remembrance.
Veterans, both military and civilian, can be of British, Commonwealth or Allied origin and all costs for their attendance will be met by The Royal British Legion and its partners.
There will also be commemorative events taking place in the Vale of Clwyd, and James is urging people to attend.
He said: “Both of these anniversaries are extremely significant and I commend The Royal British Legion for organising these very special commemorative events both nationally and locally and would encourage veterans in the Vale of Clwyd to be part of them.
“The Royal British Legion events planned for North Wales include a Charity Night of Music to commemorate the VE Day 75th Anniversary on May 8th at St Thomas’s Church (doors open at 7pm for 7.30pm start). I know a lot of hard work has gone in to organising this event, which will feature Goodnight Sweethearts, Rhyl Silver Band and the fantastic Military Wives, and I urge people to support it and play their part in helping to ensure that the sacrifices of those who served are never forgotten”.
