Vale of Clwyd MP Dr James Davies is welcoming the fact that the Emergency Coronavirus Bill, due in Parliament this week, is expected to help make it possible for the UK and Welsh Governments to close caravan parks by Thursday.
People throughout North Wales were up in arms this weekend as holiday makers flocked to the coast amid the Coronavirus outbreak.
James was inundated by concerned constituents and has taken the issue up with the Prime Minister.
He said:
“I have been contacted by many people over the weekend who are concerned about the influx of visitors to the area in the current scenario. Trips to holiday parks are not “essential travel” and risk spreading infection and overwhelming local health services, but nevertheless people have been coming in droves and this needs to be stopped.
“I have taken the issue to the very top of Government and I am pleased that the Emergency Coronavirus Bill, which is expected to pass Parliament this week, will give the UK and Welsh Governments temporary powers to act on a number of issues, including some of the problems with visitors that we are observing here in North Wales.
“It is absolutely paramount that everyone starts listening and takes this seriously. All should be social distancing - especially those over 70 and women who are pregnant - and should avoid going out unless completely necessary. Those in a high risk category should expect a letter from the NHS this week and should stay at home and self-isolate. Clearly those who are symptomatic must also self-isolate as per the latest public health advice. If we all do as instructed, we can help prevent death rates from rocketing. I urge you all, for the safety of all our loved ones, to follow the advice.”
