Vale of Clwyd MP Dr James Davies has welcomed news that an initiative to tackle anti-social behaviour in the town centre and other areas of Rhyl has been re-adopted and said it will help contribute to the town’s future success.
Following a successful three-year Public Spaces Protection Order (PSPO), a second order has been approved by Denbighshire County Council further to an application by North Wales Police.
The order was approved after statutory consultation with members of the public and businesses.
James submitted a letter of support for the second order, as he did for the first, and is therefore delighted that it has been approved.
He said:
“Anti-social behaviour is a problem that is frequently raised with me by constituents and I am therefore very keen that every action necessary is taken to get it under control.
“When I met the Chief Constable of North Wales Police, Carl Foulkes, earlier this year, I emphasised the need for a firm line to be taken in areas in the constituency, such as Rhyl town centre and West Rhyl, where overlooking antisocial behaviour has sometimes become commonplace.
“The first PSPO was extremely successful, providing powers to tackle antisocial behaviour, and this second order will build on that.
“Anti-social behaviour is sometimes referred to as "low-level crime", but its impact on a town can be extensive.
“Rhyl’s success relies heavily on tourism and we need to be doing everything we possibly can to guarantee that the town is appealing to visitors, not to mention locals. This order will help ensure that people do not feel intimidated in the town and can undoubtedly contribute substantially to the town’s future success.
“I thank Denbighshire County Council for approving this application by North Wales Police and I look forward to witnessing the improvements to the town that this second order will activate.”
