Having called for measures to tackle anti-social and criminal behaviour at Rhyl’s Botanical Gardens, Vale of Clwyd MP Dr James Davies has welcomed news that Denbighshire County Council have agreed to take action.
Problems with anti-social youths have been escalating at the popular gardens for some time and there has been substantial damage in recent weeks.
James wrote to Denbighshire County Council about the issue earlier in the month and last week contacted them again after receiving further complaints.
He is therefore pleased that the Council has commissioned the service of a local security company to patrol the gardens and lock the gates at 10pm each night.
He said:
“This is very welcome news indeed and exactly what users of the gardens and those living close by have wanted.
“The problems at the gardens have been getting progressively worse in recent weeks and hopefully these measures will put an end to them.
“The Botanical Gardens are a real asset to Rhyl and are popular with the local community. It is vital that everything is done to protect them and I would like to thank Denbighshire Council for agreeing to put these measures in place.
“The new measures will commence on May 17th and in the meantime the police will be carrying out targeted patrols by their Neighbourhood Policing Team in and around the area.”
James recently sent letters to all residents in the vicinity to encourage them to share their experience of the problems.
He added:
“The only way to truly eradicate this anti-social and criminal behaviour in the gardens is to all work together. I therefore urge anyone who witnesses any incidents to report them to the police and also to inform the county council and my office.”
