Dr James Davies, MP for the Vale of Clwyd, recently visited Coleg Llandrillo, Rhyl, to hear first-hand from learners and staff about the investment in technology and a new building aiming to develop the skills of future employees in health, care and engineering sectors.
During his visit on October 14th, James met with Salah Berdouk, Assistant Principal and Tim Peel, Lead Manager for Coleg Llandrillo's Rhyl Campus.
He was shown the transformation of the Rhyl Campus to make it a place where students feel happy and relaxed.
He said:
"I was very pleased to visit Coleg Llandrillo, Rhyl, to see what had been achieved since my last visit and was very impressed by what I saw.
"The social and learning spaces are very inviting. The space looks bright and furnished with comfortable and inviting furniture for the students.
"I enjoyed meeting with students studying to maintain and repair the cars of the future in the new Electric Vehicle Training Centre, and I was pleased to learn that Coleg Llandrillo was not only getting the next generation of mechanics ready for the world of tomorrow, but was also supporting the current workforce getting the necessary skills to help the Electrical Vehicle Driver of the North West stay on the road. I was told Coleg Llandrillo upskilled a number of AA Patrol technicians to this effect."
During his visit, James also called into another department key to the Welsh economy, the Health and Social Care Department, where he spoke at length with multiple students wanting to work in this vital sector and visited the college's fully equipment simulated hospital ward.
He was also impressed by the progress made on the building of our £14m Engineering Centre of Excellence, and was pleased to learn that Wynne Construction was using local suppliers and contractors on this construction site.
He said:
"This state-of-the-art centre will be a real asset to Rhyl and I look forward to revisiting the college to see it once it is completed.
"The college is doing fantastic work, and I will continue working with them to promote the apprenticeship opportunities they are providing in Rhyl."
