Vale of Clwyd MP Dr James Davies has applauded a new centre which is providing advice, information and practical support to people with dementia and their families.
The North Wales Dementia Centre, opened by the Carers Trust in the summer, is based at Quinton Hazell Enterprise Park in Mochdre, Colwyn Bay.
It hosts community groups, dementia cafes, social activities, emotional support, and gives free training advice and guidance to people with dementia and their families from across North Wales.
James, who is a former clinical champion for dementia and has repeatedly raised in Parliament the need for improved services for those with dementia, recently visited the centre and was impressed by all that has been achieved since its July opening.
He said:
“Dementia is a complex condition, but sadly to date advice and support for families affected by it has often been lacking in North Wales.
“Getting the right treatment, help, advocacy and support is vital both for the person diagnosed with dementia and their loved ones.
“I therefore very much welcome this first-of-its-kind new centre which is much needed in the region and thank the Carers Trusts for establishing it.
“With an estimated 1,113 people living with dementia in the Vale of Clwyd, there will be a great many families relieved that they now have somewhere local to turn to for support as they navigate this multifaceted disease.”
