Vale of Clwyd MP Dr James Davies has been elected to serve on the House of Commons Health and Social Care Select Committee, enabling him to play an important role in influencing government health policy.
James, who was also a Member of the Committee during his two years as an MP between 2015 and 2017, was elected by his MP colleagues this week.
The Health and Social Care Committee is appointed by the House of Commons to examine the policy, administration and expenditure of the Department of Health and Social Care and its associated bodies.
James has worked as a doctor within the NHS for 15 years and undertook junior doctor training at Ysbyty Glan Clwyd in Bodelwyddan. He was a clinical champion for dementia for a number of years.
Between the 2017 and 2019 elections, he worked in Rhyl as well as in many other practices and Out of Hours services in the region, providing him with an invaluable insight into the full extent of failure within the Labour-run devolved Welsh NHS.
James said:
“I am delighted to have been elected on to this Committee for a second time and would like to thank my MP colleagues for supporting me.
“When I was elected as an MP in December, I vouched touse my detailed understanding of the ongoing problems within the NHS in North Wales to fight for a turnaround, and being on the Health and Social Care Select Committee will put me in a stronger position to do this. In particular, I believe it is important that UK-wide fully comparable NHS performance statistics are introduced, along with UK-wide patient safety mechanisms.”
Jeremy Hunt – Conservative MP for South West Surrey – has been confirmed as the new Chair-elect of the Health and Social Care Select Committee.
