Vale of Clwyd MP Dr James Davies has helped plant a tree in the grounds of Ysbyty Glan Clwyd.
Soroptimists of Rhyl and District teamed up with the maintenance team at the Bodelwyddan hospital and Coleg Cambria horticultural students to develop the courtyard area next to the dining area and cafe, to provide patients and visitors with a much improved respite/quiet area.
Funding for the project has been provided by Denbighshire Voluntary Services Council, Conwy Voluntary Services Council and Denbighshire Coastal Partnership, who administer annually RWE npower funding to community groups in Rhyl, Prestatyn and Meliden.
Part of the development involved the planting of several trees and James was given the honour of putting the final spade of soil to the planting of the final ornamental tree.
Speaking afterwards, he said:
"I was very pleased to play a small part in the development of the courtyard by helping to plant the final ornamental trees. The area has been transformed and what has been created is a lovely tranquil area which will enable patients and visitors to take some time out from the hustle and bustle of the busy hospital to experience some quiet time.
"The students from Coleg Cambria produced an excellent design and have worked hard with Soroptimists of Rhyl and District and the hospital's maintenance team to bring their design to life.
"I would like to thank all those involved in the development of the courtyard, which I am sure will be enjoyed by patients, their families and friends, and hospital staff for many years to come."
