Dr James Davies, MP for Vale of Clwyd, cut the ribbon last week, with Postmaster Mohammad Mushtaq, at the official opening of Rhyl Post Office, which is situated inside a brand-new store called Rhyl Mini Market.
The empty premises at 11 Bodfor Street, Rhyl, were fully refurbished for the convenience store with two open-plan Post Office counters alongside the retail counter.
Commenting after the opening, James said:
“I want to congratulate Mohammad on his new Post Office and Rhyl Mini Market which looks very smart and modern. The staff are really welcoming and the daily opening of the Post Office throughout the store’s long opening hours will make it very easy for people to send parcels, do home shopping returns, carry out banking and pay bills. The residents and businesses in Rhyl will really benefit from this new facility.”
Mohammad was raised in Rhyl before moving to Manchester to study and spending 25 years working in retail, hospitality and petrol stations.
He said:
“The community is really happy to have a permanent Post Office and convenience store, selling a wide range of household goods under one roof. People have popped by during the project to see the new shop take shape.
“The Post Office offers essential services including everyday banking for all the major high street banks, so lots of people have already visited. Then we turned our attention to fully stocking the retail side of the shop.”
Rhyl Post Office is now available throughout Rhyl Mini Market’s opening hours of Monday to Saturday: 8am – 8pm; Sunday: 10am – 7pm.
This means that the Post Office is now open daily and with longer hours than before including all-day Sunday, earlier opening and later closing. This is an extra 35 hours a week for the convenience of customers.
This is Mohammad’s first Post Office. He is supported by Linda Palmer and Emma Myatt-Williams who worked at the previous Rhyl Post Office. This branch at 32-34 High Street had been operated on behalf of the Post Office by a temporary postmaster. The Post Office then sought a permanent solution to safeguard services.
Mohammad’s son Daud Mohammed is also working at Rhyl Mini Market and the Manager is Ashutosh Kadia. They have been busy stocking the retail side of the store.
Santosh Samudrala, Post Office Network Provision Lead, said:
“We are delighted with this new, permanent location for Rhyl Post Office with extended opening hours inside this great-looking shop. This is a real boost for the town.”
Access to the premises was previously via a tarmac step but this has been made into a small slope to improve access for people.
The new branch is approximately 280 metres from the previous one. There is time restricted roadside parking opposite and Rhyl bus station is approximately 150 metres away.
