Vale of Clwyd MP Dr James Davies has applauded Rhyl based not-for-profit organisation RCS Wales for the vital employment support it provides to people locally and elsewhere and has thanked them for their outstanding work throughout the pandemic.
RCS is a self-sustaining, Community Interest Company which was established in 2007 to tackle unemployment and economic inactivity in Rhyl. It now operates across North Wales and beyond from its office bases in Rhyl and Bangor.
Speaking at their AGM last week, James said he is extremely proud of their achievements to date, including the outstanding help and support they have provided people during the pandemic.
He referred to the concerning projections regarding unemployment, expressed concern that North Wales could one of the hardest hit areas, and stressed that the services provided by RCS Wales will be more important that ever going forward.
Speaking after the meeting, James said:
“Having championed the work that RCS Wales does in the House of Commons earlier this year, and called on the UK Government to continue supporting such organisations, it was great to attend and speak at their AGM last week and to hear more about the vital support they are providing.
“I shared with them constituents’ concerns regarding employment that have been raised with me throughout the pandemic and outlined the support that has been provided by the UK Government to safeguard jobs and livelihoods, including the Coronavirus Job Retention Scheme (CJRS), which protected 2,700 jobs in the Vale of Clwyd, Self-Employment Income Support Scheme (SEISS), which protected 2,000 jobs, the Coronavirus job retention bonus, Government backed loans, and the Eat Out to Help Out scheme, which discounted 46,000 meals in the Vale of Clwyd alone, directly benefitting 58 businesses.
“I also spoke of new schemes designed to help protect jobs, including the £2bn Kickstart Scheme, which will provide hundreds of thousands of fully-subsidised 6-month placements for 16–24-year-olds who are claiming Universal Credit and are at risk of long-term unemployment, welcoming the fact that RCS will be acting as an intermediary for smaller businesses, and the £3.6 billion being invested by the UK Government to double the number of work coaches.”
James added:
“There is no doubt there are extremely difficult times ahead; therefore governments need to ensure that Covid restrictive measures take into account economic impact, and it is also vital that we fast-track vaccine deployment.
“We always need to ensure that the long-term bigger picture is clear, including regeneration; education and training; the NHS; infrastructure; the North Wales Growth Deal; and the Levelling up fund.
“We are very fortunate in the Vale of Clwyd to have RCS Wales on our doorstep to help people navigate through these continually challenging times. It was a pleasure to speak at their AGM and to be given the opportunity to thank them in person for all the tremendous work they are doing, to wish them well going forward, and to offer my help should they need it.”
