Vale of Clwyd MP Dr James Davies has applauded the work of a Rhyl based charity which is providing invaluable support to the local community.
James recently visited Brighter Futures, situated on 34 Wellington Road, which is going from strength to strength since its establishment in 2018.
The charity, which was announced as the winner of the Best Entrepreneurial Charity at the 20th Anniversary Awards and Conference, was set up in response to the need for voluntary organisations to work together while delivering independently. In an effort to reduce social isolation, loneliness, and poverty, Brighter Futures share their resources, skills, and expertise amongst unique groups to provide support and services to local children, young people, parents, the elderly, and those with disabilities.
Last year HRH Prince William, Duke of Cambridge, praised the charity after a visit to learn more about the work they do in Rhyl.
Speaking following his own visit, James said:
“It was a real pleasure to visit Brighter Futures and to meet Stephen and the team to find out more about the fantastic work they are doing, working with a variety of organisations to help create a ‘Brighter Future’ in Rhyl.
“Even throughout the pandemic, although groups couldn’t meet up as they can now, they were working hard delivering food, PPE and sports equipment to local people.
“I was told that more recently, as restrictions have lifted, there has been an increased demand for the various groups that meet at the facility, which include Men’s Shed, Women’s Shed, Youth Café, Kidz Shed, Parent and Toddler’s Group, Repair Café, Street Games, ASD Group, Craft Group, Moontime and Young Carers.
“The way in which they have transformed this former derelict pub for the good of the community is remarkable and all those involved deserve huge praise.”
Stephen Johnson, who has worked at Brighter Futures for the past two years, said:
“It was great to welcome James and to talk to him about potential funding opportunities, which he has agreed to support us with. We also spoke about cost-of-living pressures locally and how we help by providing a warm meeting place where everyone who attends our groups receives a hot meal.
“Since everything opened up again, our groups have just got bigger and bigger demonstrating the demand for what they each individually provide.”
