Having recently met the developer behind the conversion of the former council offices on Nant Hall Road, Prestatyn, Vale of Clwyd MP Dr James Davies has given the proposals a thumbs up.
The plans for the site would see the provision of a new commercial unit with five ground floor holiday lets and 18 two-bed apartments.
The development would involve the demolition of a rear extension, its replacement with a newly-built extension, landscaping works and car park re-structuring.
James recently met and had “encouraging conversations" with the developer behind the proposed conversion.
Commenting he said:
“These proposals would see the former council offices on Nant Hall Road developed into a commercial/office unit, five ground floor holiday lets, and 18 two-bed apartments.
“I recently had a very useful meeting with the developers and was encouraged by their plans.
“This site is in a prime location in the town centre, and it will be good to see it back in use, and the preservation of its old frontage.
“Having new homes and space for businesses in the heart of Prestatyn will be good for the town and boost its economy. There is certainly a need for such accommodation.
“The redevelopment is currently in the pre-planning application stage, with a public consultation still live and I encourage people to respond.”
In a heritage impact statement, architects and surveyors Cassidy + Ashton said of the proposal:
“It has been demonstrated that the existing rear extension to the original building actively detracts from the Prestatyn High Street Conservation Area and the wider area, through design, materials and state of repair.
“The proposed development will have only a positive material / visual impact on the nearby listed buildings or other heritage assets. The development will facilitate the redevelopment of the building as a component of the wider historic environment.
“The proposed development will have a positive physical and visual impact on the Conservation Area at the heart of the town centre, providing a sustainable development.”
