Vale of Clwyd MP Dr James Davies has visited the OpTIC Technology Centre in St Asaph with a Wales Office Minister to discuss the opportunities the North Wales Growth Deal will provide them with.
In March, James welcomed announcements unveiled by Chancellor Rishi Sunak in his Budget that are helping to accelerate funding for the North Wales Growth Deal and bring jobs and opportunities to the region.
It will help a range of projects across the Vale of Clwyd, and North Wales more widely, and the Enterprise Engineering and Optics Centre with Wrexham Glyndwr University, which is based on St Asaph Business Park, is one of the projects set to benefit.
James visited the centre earlier this month, along with the Parliamentary Under Secretary of State for Wales, Minister David TC Davies, to discuss the project and how it will benefit from the Growth Deal.
Speaking after the meeting, he said:
“The North Wales Growth Deal boosts regional efforts to promote innovation in high value manufacturing, with £29.8m of capital investment set to be made at OpTIC Centre by Glyndwr University. This funding will support the existing cluster of high-tech engineering industries with precision optical systems, photonics technologies and facilities development, that will have broad industrial, R&D and educational applications.
“It was good to visit the centre with the Parliamentary Under Secretary of State for Wales and to be given a further insight into one of the projects involving strong but lightweight materials.
“As we build back better from the pandemic, projects like this, which are part of the North Wales Growth Deal, will be vital in bringing jobs, growth and innovation to our communities.”
