Vale of Clwyd MP Dr James Davies, who is leading a campaign to return cash points to Prestatyn High Street, has welcomed the reinstallation of a 24 hour ATM at Meliden Road Post Office.
James has been working hard over the past months to restore one or more cash points within the town centre and last month launched his Cash Machines campaign, which has already gathered much support.
He has been liaising with Link, Cardtronics and Notemachine, as well as individual businesses based in the High Street.
He therefore welcomes the introduction of the new cash point at the Meliden Road Post Office at the top of town, near Aldi, but has emphasised the need for cash machines in the High Street itself.
He said:
“With the closure of all banks in Prestatyn, the High Street has been left without a single cash point and I have been working hard in recent months in an attempt to restore access to cash within the town centre. Cash remains important to many of the independent businesses in the town centre.
“I therefore very much welcome the reintroduction of the cash point at the top of town, at Meliden Road Post Office.
“However, it is quite a distance to walk to the new cash point from the High Street, particularly for elderly and disabled shoppers, and it is therefore vital that more are installed in other parts of the town centre, ideally on the High Street. I am pleased to report that this is looking close to becoming a reality.
“Since launching my campaign just a few weeks ago, it has already received substantial support, demonstrating the strength of feeling about this.”
James concluded:
“The installation of the Post Office cash point is certainly a move in the right direction, but with Prestatyn being a retail hub for North Wales we most certainly need more. I will continue pushing for this and encourage people to support my campaign.”
James’s campaign postcards can be collected from shops throughout Prestatyn High Street and can be completed and emailed to: [email protected].
