A man who has been the driving force behind Prestatyn’s many walking achievements has received national recognition for all he has done.
Malcolm Wilkinson was one of eight people shortlisted for the Living Streets Charles Maher Award - Walking Champion 2021, which recognises an individual, local group or organisation that has campaigned to benefit people in their local community.
Malcolm has been instrumental in Prestatyn's many walking achievements over the years, from running the annual Walking Festival, to working with local schools, parents and other groups to incorporate walking into people's daily lives.
Vale of Clwyd MP Dr James Davies, who nominated Malcolm for the award, said:
“Malcolm has always gone above and beyond over the years to promote the many fantastic walks that are available here in Prestatyn, and throughout the Vale of Clwyd, and I, like many others, appreciate his dedicated efforts.
“Living Streets received a record number of 69 nominations this year, so to be shortlisted to the final eight is a huge achievement.
“All the candidates selected for the shortlist have made our streets safer and cleaner, promoted inclusion, pioneered low traffic solutions, demonstrated creativity and innovation and used walking to tackle the pressures of the coronavirus pandemic.
“It has been great to see more people than usual over the past 12 months enjoying all the lovely walks that Prestatyn has to offer and I very much hope that people continue partaking in this healthy leisure activity as we return to normal life.
“I would like to congratulate Malcolm and once again thank him for all he has done over the years to ensure that people are aware of the walking opportunities in Prestatyn.”
The award was won by Blackburn with Darwen councillor, Mustafa Desai.
