Vale of Clwyd MP Dr James Davies has praised a new facility for young people in Rhyl after attending its official launch this week.
Rhyl Youth Centre has proved to be a huge success since it opened its doors on East Parade, with young people from the town enjoying the array of activities and opportunities it provides.
On Monday, James attended the official launch of the centre and was shown around the youth room, which includes a pool table, table tennis, basketball, chill-out beanbags, art and craft tables, games and music.
The centre also includes a fully equipped kitchen for independent living skills and Agored accreditations, a 1-2-1 room for individual discussion, and training room for projects and learning opportunities.
Speaking after the launch, James said:
“I am very impressed by the new Youth Centre. It has been well designed, and I am told that the young people were very much involved in this.
“It provides a comfortable environment for young people to develop skills and access tailored support through activities and training and is a real asset for Rhyl. It is situated in a great location, next to the bowling green and skate park, and is open to young people from throughout the town.
“At the launch we enjoyed some baked treats, which were made by some of the young people in the spacious kitchen, and were shown the activities on offer.
“I would like to thank and congratulate all those involved in the development of this excellent facility and encourage young people in the town to use it.”
Rhyl East County Councillor Justine Evans, who also attended the launch, said:
“It is important that young people have a safe and relaxed place to hang out and Rhyl Youth Centre provides just that.
“With the young people very much involved in the planning and the design of the centre, it provides everything a young person could want.
“The Youth Services team and the young people themselves deserve huge praise for what they have created.”
Regular opening times of the Youth Centre are:
- Tuesday 6pm to 8pm: junior session for young people aged 11 to 13
- Wednesday 6pm to 8pm: senior session for young people aged 14 to 17
