Voters of the future visited the mother of all parliaments on Tuesday (May 16).
Children from Bodnant Community School, Prestatyn toured the House of Commons and House of Lords, witnessed debates taking place, attended a workshop on voting, and met Vale of Clwyd MP, James Davies.
The pupils were members of its school council and reporters club, who had been preparing for a few weeks for the trip.
The young journalists, who all write for The Bodnant Bugle, questioned Dr Davies on his role as a parliamentary politician and topical issues of the day.
Year Five pupil Abby-Léren quizzed the MP on rising food prices, citing her mum’s switch to discount supermarket Aldi as a way of coping with the cost of living crisis.
Aaradhya asked Dr Davies if there was a prospect of him being given the health portfolio in the future, while Chloe asked if Dr Davies had an MP friend.
He replied that he had a friend called Rishi, but also spoke about working with other MPs, not just in his own party.
Year Six pupil Tallulah-Rose presented Dr Davies with some green tomato chutney which had been grown in the school allotment as a thank-you for his time.
The children had also been treated to a sightseeing tour of London that day.
“It was an amazing trip to be part of,” said Tallulah-Rose.
“I have seen parliament on the news but never thought I would visit such an iconic place”.
The children invited Dr Davies to visit the school and see their allotment, which they hope will take place in the near future.
