A formal traffic study is to be carried out at the increasingly busy A547 Meliden Road junction with the Dyserth bends and Allt y Graig/Thorncliffe Building Supplies, following concerns regarding safety along the stretch.
Vale of Clwyd MP Dr James Davies recently visited the site, along with Denbighshire County Council’s Lead Member for Waste, Transport and the Environment, Cllr Brian Jones, after being contacted by a number of residents warning that the junction has become dangerous.
The visit, which took place earlier this month, was jointly arranged and attended by Dyserth Councillor David Williams and Meliden Councillor Peter Evans.
James said:
“With traffic having increased substantially over the years, this stretch is now far busier than it used to be and I have received numerous emails and calls from constituents who are concerned about safety. We also all have personal experiences of the difficulty of this junction.
“The traffic was observed during the on-site meeting and it was agreed by myself and others in attendance that there is a danger and consequently a formal traffic study will now be carried out to establish whether or not there is a need for either traffic lights or a roundabout to be installed.”
Lead Member for Transport, Cllr Brian Jones, said:
“Denbighshire County Council will always take seriously any matters brought to their attention by residents. Following the site visit, the issue was brought before officers who have decided that a traffic study should be carried out.
“This will be a camera survey providing turning counts and analysis of near misses. It will be carried out in the second week of September when the schools are back open so it can provide a true reflection of the traffic travelling along the road during a standard working day.
“The results will be then be analysed enabling us to decide what action, if any, is necessary.”
