Vale of Clwyd MP Dr James Davies hosted a local climate change summit on Friday 25th June to mark the upcoming UN COP 26 conference in Glasgow in November.
Due to Covid restrictions, the summit was held virtually on Zoom, but still featured three expert panels that discussed a range of issues relating to climate change.
The respective panels focused on energy generation, sustainable development and growth, and our personal environmental responsibilities, and featured insights from industry leaders, academics, local government figures, and charity representatives.
The discussions on each of the panels were highly informative and provided valuable insights not only on what opportunities there are in the region to lead the fight against climate change, for example on renewable energy, but also on what global leaders should be prioritising ahead of COP 26.
The summit also included discussions on how climate change and carbon emissions can affect the environment and the natural world around us, and the direct impacts they can have on our health.
Local constituents who attended the webinar were given the opportunity to put their questions to the expert panellists, and James was delighted to see a great level of engagement from constituents on a variety of climate change and ecological issues.
Speaking after the webinar on Friday, James said:
“It was great to bring together constituents and expert panellists at the Vale of Clwyd Climate Change Summit.
“I was really encouraged by the level of engagement and interest from constituents on these vital issues, especially given their relevance this year, with the COP 26 summit taking place on UK soil in November.
“As I said during the webinar, it is vital that we all engage with efforts to tackle climate change and that we all have our say in the wider debate on environmental issues, and I’d like to thank all the constituents who attended for playing their part.
“I am also very grateful to the panellists who took part in the debate for giving up their time to provide their expert insights into these issues. I have certainly learned much from the event, having listened intently to what was said during the discussions.
“I would encourage any constituents who missed the summit to watch the recording of the event on my YouTube channel.
“I will continue to work in Parliament to support efforts to tackle climate change and will be sure to look for other ways to engage constituents in these vital discussions going forward.”
