The hard work and dedication of a man who is making a real difference to people in the area was recognised last week, when he attended a Royal Garden Party.
Founder of Rhyl-based charity ‘Belief’, Steve Evans, travelled to London with his wife Dawn to attend the King’s first Royal Garden Party of his reign, after being nominated for an invitation by Vale of Clwyd MP Dr James Davies.
The couple spent a few days in London, and before attending the Garden Party had a tour of Parliament and met James, who took them to the Terrace to see the view of the Thames.
James said:
“I was delighted to nominate Steve for an invitation to His Majesty the King’s Royal Garden Party, as I know he goes above and beyond for the local community.
“Since 2012, Belief has provided important local support to Rhyl, Prestatyn and the surrounding areas, whether via organisations or individuals.
“The charity is a real credit to Steve and his hard work in running the charity as a volunteer.
“Over the years, Belief has supported numerous individuals and organisations in the community and has grown to include 127 members who regularly contribute towards the charitable fund.
“Causes they have supported include arranging to pay £3,750 for a specialised bed for the family of a five year old girl from Rhyl, who was born prematurely with birth defects.
“Many in the community look forward to the main annual events which Belief holds, including a fundraiser for the cancer unit, and a ‘Boxing Day dip’, where local members and supporters brave the icy conditions of the Irish Sea to raise money for the local RNLI.
“Belief is a vital community group that has been admirably led by Steve since its creation. I know that it makes a real difference to those in our community.
“It was a real pleasure to meet Steve and Dawn whilst they were in London, and I am delighted that they enjoyed both the Garden Party and their tour of the Houses of Parliament.”
Steve said:
“I was extremely proud when I heard that James was nominating me for an invite to the Royal Garden Party. Little did I know when setting up a small fundraising group 10 years ago called "Belief", that we would be where we are now, and being recognised by our Member of Parliament!
“Dawn and I had an amazing day - one which we will never forget.”
