Vale of Clwyd MP Dr James Davies is encouraging people across Denbighshire to check their eligibility for new and more generous UK Government schemes which will help them save money on their heating and move towards low-carbon alternatives.
From 23rd October 2023, the Boiler Upgrade Scheme grant for air source heat pumps and ground source heat pumps will increase from £5,000 (air source) and £6,000 (ground source) to £7,500 for both. The Boiler Upgrade Scheme also provides £5,000 grants towards new Biomass Boilers.
To apply for a grant, see if your home is eligible at: https://gov.uk/apply-boiler-upgrade-scheme
On 14th September, the Government announced the launch of the Great British Insulation Scheme.
This will help more than 300,000 families heat their homes and save money on their bills through energy efficiency upgrades, such as:
-
Cavity wall insulation
-
Solid wall insulation (internal or external)
-
Loft insulation
-
Flat or pitched roof insulation
-
Underfloor insulation
-
Solid floor insulation
-
Park home insulation
-
Room-in-roof insulation
Welcoming the scheme and encouraging residents in the Vale of Clwyd to check if they are eligible, James said:
“This new scheme is worth £1 billion over three years and will help over 300,000 households insulate their homes and save money on their heating.
“The Government has also launched a new GOV.UK eligibility checker and referral service for the Great British Insulation Scheme – allowing households to find out what support is available for them to install energy efficiency measures.
“Upgrading our homes to be more energy efficient is the best long-term solution for reducing our energy costs, tackling fuel poverty, and keeping ourselves warm and healthy in winter.
“This is why at a time of high energy prices, the Great British Insulation Scheme is broadening who is eligible beyond the low-income and vulnerable households that ECO4 prioritises, to millions of others who do not currently benefit from government support to upgrade their homes and reduce their energy bills.
“Eligible households will be offered vital upgrades, such as roof, loft or cavity wall insulation via their energy supplier, which could cut their annual energy bill by an average of between £300 to £400.”
To be potentially eligible for this scheme, households must:
-
Have an energy performance certificate (EPC) of D-G.
-
Constituents can check their EPC rating through this link: https://www.gov.uk/find-energy-certificate
-
Be between Council tax bands A-D in England.
-
Be between Council Tax bands A-E in Scotland and Wales.
-
Constituents can check their Council Tax band through this link: https://www.gov.uk/council-tax-bands
However, if people are unsure and want to check whether they are eligible for the scheme, they can do so by using the online checker at this link: https://www.gov.uk/apply-great-british-insulation-scheme
Equally, if people are not able to use the online service, they can speak to an advisor on the helpline by calling this number: 0800 098 7950. This service is open Monday to Friday between 8am-6pm and Saturday between 9am-12pm.
Customers using the online tools will be referred to their energy supplier for support from the ECO (Energy Company Obligation) programme and GB Insultation Scheme, to take the next step in making their home more energy efficient.
