Vale of Clwyd MP Dr James Davies joined farmers from the area for a natter and a hearty Welsh breakfast on Friday when he attended the Farmers' Union of Wales (FUW) Farmhouse Breakfast Week event in Cefn Meiriadog.
The FUW's Farmhouse Breakfast Week has been running for almost two decades and usually takes place in the third week of January.
It was established by the FUW with the aim of promoting the wonderful, nutritious and sustainable food our farmers produce.
Speaking after enjoying his tasty breakfast in Cefn Meiriadog, James said:
“Each year I am pleased to support the FUW's Farmhouse Breakfast Week, which provides an opportunity to get people round the table to share their thoughts and concerns, with the hope of fostering good mental health.
“It also provides farmers with an opportunity to engage with local politicians and other stakeholders to highlight why farming matters in ways that are seldom realised, such as the way the industry supports second and third sector businesses and keeps the wheels of our rural economy turning.
“Of course, it also provides an opportunity to promote the quality, premium local produce that farmers provide for us every day of the year, and throughout breakfast week the FUW shine a spotlight on the importance of our rural economy.”
He added:
“In the UK one in four people skip breakfast during the week and as many as one in six adults never eat breakfast, even though for many it is the most important meal of the day and plays a key role in helping tackle obesity.
"The NHS also says eating breakfast has long term health benefits and can reduce obesity, high blood pressure, heart disease and diabetes.
“There is nothing quite like a full Welsh breakfast and I certainly enjoyed mine on Friday.”
FUW President Ian Rickman said:
“We all get really excited about our farmhouse breakfasts every year. We can start the day together with family, friends and neighbours, in a positive and healthy way and at the same time raise money for our charitable cause, the Wales Air Ambulance.
“It’s fair to say that a healthy start is not just good for a healthy heart but also for a healthy mind.”
