Vale of Clwyd MP Dr James Davies is encouraging artistic youngsters in the constituency to join in celebrations to mark 150 years of the Palace of Westminster by taking part in the House of Commons Speaker’s art competition.
The competition is called ‘My Democracy Design’ and is open to young people aged between 6 and 15. Those interested can find out more by visiting:https://learning.parliament.uk/competition/
James would like to see as many Vale of Clwyd children as possible enter the competition which will see the winning design created into a unique democracy-themed tile.
He said:
“The Palace of Westminster is synonymous with UK Parliament and has become a symbol of democracy around the world. This year we are commemorating 150 years since rebuilding work was completed on the Palace following the devastating fire of 1834.
”The art competition is a fantastic opportunity to engage the next generation in the important history of Parliament and politics.
“I am sure there are many gifted young artists throughout the Vale of Clwyd and I urge them to show off their talents by taking part in this competition. The deadline for entries is 31 August 2020.”
Also as part of the 150 year celebrations, a series of stamps showing iconic views of both Houses are on sale at Post Offices across the country, and are also available at the Houses of Parliament online shop which can be found at: https://www.shop.parliament.uk/collections/palace-of-westminster-at-150
