Vale of Clwyd MP Dr James Davies has applauded the work of FareShare, which redistributes surplus quality food from businesses to local charities nationwide - including nine in the Vale of Clwyd - after visiting their Merseyside distribution centre recently.
Speaking after his visit, he said:
“FareShare is the UK’s longest running food redistribution charity and was born out of the belief that no good food should go to waste.
“During the pandemic, FareShare has, with the assistance of £1.9m Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs (DEFRA) funding, redistribured surplus quality food from businesses to local charities nationwide – including nine in the Vale of Clwyd – helping those in difficulty, reducing waste and tackling obesity through providing healthy food.
“The pandemic has brought very challenging times and sadly some are struggling. The work of FareShare is therefore more crucial than ever right now.
“Across the charity’s 21 Regional Centres, their hard working volunteers carry out a range of vital activities, from delivering, allocating and sorting food to safeguarding the future of FareShare through fundraising, delivering talks and sharing news on social media, and I thank them all for their dedication to this worthy cause.”
