Vale of Clwyd MP Dr James Davies welcomed the UK Government’s Employment Minister Mims Davies MP to Rhyl on Wednesday and accompanied her on visits to The Range and Jobcentre Plus.
At The Range they met with the manager, were given a tour of the store, and spoke to employees who have secured paid employment following work experience organised by the Department for Work and Pensions (DWP).
Later in the afternoon the Minister and James visited Rhyl Jobcentre Plus on the High Street to meet with Rhyl Work Coaches and to discuss DWP programmes.
James said:
“It was great to welcome the Minister to Rhyl and to give her a brief insight of the town and its people.
“We were both very pleased to hear of The Range’s success in helping people back into paid employment through its work experience programme. It has recruited many customers into paid roles and it was good to hear that this success continued throughout lockdown, and to meet some of the members of staff who were recruited in this way.
“The visit to Rhyl Jobcentre Plus was also extremely useful, with the staff able to feed back to the Minister their views on operations and to suggest ways of improving the system moving forward.
“The team there are doing fantastic work. Their role has been particularly challenging during the pandemic and I wish to thank them all.
“I also thank The Range for their time, and the Minister for including Rhyl in her list of visits throughout the country.”
The Minister for Employment Mims Davies MP said:
“It was great to be in Rhyl to meet the brilliant DWP Work Coaches based in our local Jobcentre, and some of the new employees of local business The Range, who found roles thanks to our fantastic coaches.
“Across our national network of Jobcentres, tens of thousands of Work Coaches are working flat out to match people up with vacancies, as our Plan for Jobs continues to create new opportunities and boost job prospects as we push to build back better.”
Prior to her visit to The Range, the Minister briefly met with members of the Vale of Clwyd Conservative Association, including Cabinet Members Cllr Brian Jones and Cllr Tony Thomas.
