Vale of Clwyd MP Dr James Davies is marking the upcoming UN COP26 Climate Conference in Glasgow by hosting an event for constituents to highlight a variety of climate related issues both regionally and globally.
The event, which will be held on Zoom, will feature three expert panels and will discuss a number of key themes due to take centre stage at the main conference in Glasgow in November.
Topics discussed will range from energy generation to sustainable growth. The event will also feature discussions regarding our personal responsibilities in the fight against climate change and the health impact of high levels of carbon emissions.
Expert panellists will include academics, leaders in the energy industry and local government representatives, all of whom will provide valuable insights into how we address the climate issues we are facing in the Vale of Clwyd and beyond.
This event will also give constituents in the Vale of Clwyd an opportunity to take part in important discussions and engage with the global debates that world leaders will be considering in the run up to COP26.
The UN COP26 conference will bring together leaders from around the world and will discuss what the global community must do to tackle climate change. The main conference will consider many aspects of what the world must do in order to fight this global issue - from greening up our energy sources and financial system, to tackling deforestation and much more.
Speaking about the local event, James said:
“It is vital that people in the constituency and across the country are aware of how important the upcoming UN COP 26 Climate Conference in Glasgow will be in terms of global efforts to combat climate change.
“I have been concerned at reports I have heard in recent months that only a small percentage of people are aware of COP26 and its potential importance.
“With the UK hosting this pivotal global event, it is important for everyone to engage in the climate debate and embrace the opportunity this summit gives us in this ongoing battle.
“That’s why I have decided to try and raise awareness of COP26 here in the Vale of Clwyd, by hosting this exciting event where a range of issues relating to climate change can be discussed.
“The UK Government has adopted a world-leading net zero emissions target, aiming to end our contribution to global warming by 2050 – with further targets announced recently to bring carbon emissions down by 78 percent by 2035.
“In looking to deliver on these targets, we must ensure that we bring everyone with us, and that there are benefits for all areas of the country. I hope that this event will help raise awareness of what can be done to help in these efforts.
“I am really looking forward to the event and would encourage all those in the Vale of Clwyd with an interest in this agenda to register their interest in attending.”
Constituents who would be interested in attending the event are invited to sign up now, with details on how to do so at https://www.jamesdavies.org.uk/news/vale-clwyd-climate-summit-2021
