Vale of Clwyd MP Dr James Davies has praised all those involved in opening a new extra care housing development in Denbigh following a recent tour of the facility.
Awel y Dyffryn is a new extra care development with 66 comfortable homes and high-quality facilities which is set to open later this year.
It aims to: support people to live as independently as possible; provide a safe environment where support and care are available when needed; enhance quality of life by assisting residents to do things they find difficult: and promote a community ethos, which allows residents to come together as neighbours and friends and take an active part in the community.
The scheme is the result of collaboration between Grŵp Cynefin and Denbighshire County Council and has been built on the former Middle Lane school site in Denbigh town centre.
James said:
“Although not yet completed, I was extremely impressed by the facility.
“The scheme promises residents a homely atmosphere and the best in services and resources.
“Unlike care homes, extra care housing offers flats for one person, a couple or two people to create their own home with their choice of furniture and decor, their own front door and complete independence.
“I am sure there will be many over 60s in Denbighshire keen to take up a place at this development.
“All those involved have done a fantastic job, and I look forward to returning to see the finished article and to visit residents once it is open.”
The new facility will be available to people aged over 60 (with priority given to Denbighshire residents) in housing need (I.e not being able to manage the stairs or not managing to maintain the garden).
