Following what has been a turbulent time for many businesses due to the pandemic, Vale of Clwyd MP Dr James Davies recently met with Denbigh Business Group to discuss their concerns and hopes for the town going forward.
James is keen to support businesses throughout the Vale of Clwyd as restrictions are gradually lifted, and visited the Denbigh Business Group earlier this month to find out what their priorities are.
The Group raised a number of issues during the meeting, which James has taken forward to Denbighshire County Council.
James said:
“The pandemic has hit businesses hard with many being forced to close for months on end. Although the majority are now reopened, it is going to take some time for them to fully recover and throughout that period we need to support them as best we can.
“During the meeting the businesses suggested a number of actions which they believe would help them going forward.
“One of the main issues they raised was parking and for the current free on-street parking for half an hour to be extended. The businesses feel that half an hour does not provide sufficient time to allow customers to browse their shops, and would like to see the free parking extended to one hour, as is the case in Prestatyn.
“They also raised concerns regarding the daily fee of £7 at the Vale Street Car Park and the fact that the weekly town market is held on a Wednesday, which clashes with Mold Market. They would like to see it switched to a Thursday, which they believe would result in more people visiting Denbigh.
“Other issues raised included the safety and appearance of The Crown Hotel building, which is increasingly an eyesore and is negatively impacting surrounding businesses, and the need for an update on the bicycle track project, which could link St Asaph and the coast to Ruthin, via Denbigh.
“Following the meeting I have forwarded all of these concerns and suggestions to Denbighshire County Council for their consideration. I hope this will result in positive actions being taken to support these businesses as they recover from the pandemic.
“The group was very pleased to hear that brown signage for Denbigh Castle, St Asaph Cathedral and Rhuddlan Castle, is shortly to be installed on the A55.”
