Vale of Clwyd MP Dr James Davies has met with manufacturers of hydrogen buses.
In response to the UK’s world-leading pledge to achieve net zero carbon emissions by 2050, the bus and coach industry has worked rapidly to develop new technologies. As a result of these efforts, Wrightbus has now produced a fully operational hydrogen-powered double decker bus.
Last week, James was given a tour of the new vehicle at a briefing just outside Parliament. During the tour, Wrightbus representatives briefed James on the environmental and practical benefits of the buses, which are manufactured entirely in the UK. Business leaders have already planned for increasing demand and assured the Vale of Clwyd MP that production would remain within the UK for the foreseeable future.
Following the recent announcement that the HyNet scheme in North Wales and the North West has received priority status, James is working collaboratively to ensure that the region benefits from all associated opportunities. The Hydrogen created by HyNet can be used to power industry, transport and homes.
James commented
“Following the encouraging news regarding the HyNet project, I am delighted to see one of the many practical opportunities which hydrogen power represents.
“Hydrogen-powered buses are as practical and comfortable as existing vehicles, but they cause less environmental damage.
“I have written to the Managing Director of Arriva (UK Bus) to establish what efforts are underway to include hydrogen-powered buses within the North Wales public transport infrastructure.
