Vale of Clwyd MP Dr James Davies was put under the spotlight when a group of local school children fired an array of questions at him during a visit to Parliament.
James was very pleased to welcome 34 Year 6 pupils from Rhyl’s Ysgol Bryn Hedydd to the House of Commons last week.
The school children enjoyed a tour around the Palace of Westminster and had the chance to take part in a question and answer session with James.
Speaking afterwards, James said:
“It is always a pleasure to welcome Ysgol Bryn Hedydd on their annual trip to Parliament.
“The Year 6 children came to visit as part of their end of primary school trip and as well as having a guided tour of the historic Houses of Parliament, they had an opportunity to quiz me on an array of subject matters.
“I was very impressed by their interesting questions and knowledge about politics, which included how often I communicate with the Prime Minister, and opportunities for study abroad when they are older.
“Our young people are our future and it is important that they are taught to understand the political system and its history, and these trips to Parliament are a great way of doing that. It is one thing to learn about politics in the classroom, but quite another to actually walk the corridors of power and hear first hand from those making the decisions.
“I hope the children from Ysgol Bryn Hedydd enjoyed their visit and remember it for many years to come.”
James added:
“I would encourage all in the Vale of Clwyd wishing to have a tour of Parliament to contact my office to arrange one. I am always particularly keen to welcome schools to Westminster to help them engage with the political process, and Parliament will help to subsidise the cost of this.”
