It was all eyes down when Vale of Clwyd MP Dr James Davies paid a visit to a popular Rhyl attraction recently.
James visited Apollo Bingo in advance of National Bingo Day on June 27th, which celebrates the country’s love of Bingo.
On the evening they were hosting charity bingo games in aid of the Ukraine Appeal and James was given the opportunity to try his hand at bingo calling.
James said:
“I know Apollo Bingo is a popular haunt for many again now the pandemic has subsided, and I was pleased to pay them a visit to meet staff and customers.
“I would say from what I heard during my visit, that for most it is not about winning the big prizes on offer, but more about socialising with friends, meeting new people and switching off from the pressures of everyday life. And it certainly isn’t a game just for the older generation, with many young people now enjoying a night out at the bingo too.
“I wasn’t expecting to be asked to call the numbers, but it was good fun and it was for a very good cause. I think I picked up the lingo relatively quickly - I only hope I didn’t detract from anyone’s enjoyment of the game!”
Legend has it that bingo first began in Italy, originating from their traditional lottery game “ll Giuoco del Lotto d’italia’ in the 1500s. From there it moved to France in the late 1700s where its name evolved to ‘Le Lotto’.
