Vale of Clwyd MP Dr James Davies has applauded staff at both Jobcentres in Rhyl after meeting them recently and witnessing their commitment to securing employment for their customers.
James paid a visit to both Rhyl's original JobCentre Plus (JCP) on Rhyl High Street, and the additional temporary Jobcentre, situated at 7 Bodfor Street, which was opened at the end of last year to deal with further anticipated increases in demand for Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) services as a result of the pandemic.
James, who in June 2021 visited Job Centre Plus on Rhyl High Street with the former UK Government Employment Minister Mims Davies MP, said:
"It was good to catch up with staff at the main JobCentre Plus, and to visit the additional Jobcentre on Bodfor Street for the first time.
"We discussed a number of issues including the 'employer events' they hold, which involve different sectors coming into the centres to carry out interviews with Jobcentre customers, resulting in immediate job offers. They told me that this approach is not only helping to get people into work more quickly, but that it also provides people with an opportunity to try work that they may not have previously considered.
"The past two years have been particularly challenging for Jobcentres and their staff. I was encouraged by the positive feedback I received from staff, who told me that they are pleased with the employment figures locally. The latest unemployment benefits claimant count in the Vale of Clwyd is now lower than pre-pandemic, at 4.1%.
"The new Jobcentre looks fantastic and has helped take the pressure off the main JCP. It was a much-needed resource and has helped to ensure that Jobcentre customers have had an all-round better experience.
"As always, I thank staff at both centres for the excellent service they are providing."
